Summary
Alicia tells T’ala that the other heroes are dead but her son lives. T’ala in turn explains the history of Hiden’s heroes, and says she does not want her son to become king through the furnace. At the furnace, the king reveals that each new king is thrown into the fire and rises again unable to defy it, and that Luna’s true name is Toth. He drops the baby in, but Klen had swapped Luna for a shadow decoy. The king throws himself into the furnace instead, causing an explosion.
Rhode and Gart ambush Drel, and with Alicia they manage to kill him, but he rises again even stronger and lashes out at everyone. In the ruins of the furnace Klen finds a Book of Toa, which explains the furnace, Hiden’s schemes and the heroes’ attack on him. Disillusioned, he decides to leave Luna and go home.
