According to common knowledge in Edthea, five humanoid races live on the continent. They share a single common language; an older ancient language exists that no one understands.

| Don (Dorne) | The most numerous race, skilled in architecture and military arts. They live on the central plains and form the two great nations Eslinn and Boelate. |
| Orgg | A brave forest people known for hunting and medicine, living in the great western forest. See Orgg. |
| Slada | A water people with great naval skill who dislike dealing with other races. See Slada. |
| Bent | A barbaric, self-confident people of the eastern wastelands who lack unity. See Bent. |
| Hiden | The oldest race, with pointed ears and many mysteries, masters of refinement and metalworking. See Hiden. |
Centuries of weapon trade between Hiden and the Don mean that people of mixed Hiden blood are common, while pure-blooded Hideneans, with their pointed ears and light curly hair, are rare outside the mountains.
The truth about the races
Drel claimed that the five races are “inferior species”, since none of them can use magic without magic ore, and that a “true human race” once ruled the earth. This turned out to refer to the Toans of Toa, a higher race that ruled from a celestial city and kept all the other races in its lower stratum as laborers.
