Laswell of the Deep Blue is the Devil Beast King of the East. He is a collective, parasitic being who takes over other creatures to pass the time. At the Solsein Seminary he lives as a small one-eyed creature hidden in the hair of the Slada exchange student Edison Lieucraft, whose carbon-shaping skill he boosts.
He calls himself dim-witted, but he is curious. Because his predecessor fell early, he was reborn sooner than the other kings and witnessed the collapse of the old human world after the age of heroes. He lived among simple tribes and openly questions why the Kings keep humans penned in by their territories.
Laswell went to Vordin to ask about the past and was brought into the Chamber. When Clevatess and Vordin were both near death, Laswell left Edison and burrowed into the preserved body of Wright. Wright’s body woke and devoured him: it was Toa, not Wright, that awakened.
