Books of Toa

The five chained books written by the hero Wright, one for each passage of the Legend of the Hero.

The Books of Toa are five ornate, chained books marked with the word “TOA” in ancient script and a triangle emblem. They give off the power of a domain and can bind and remake the people around them. The Union treats them as holy scripture and the source of human history.

The five books

Each book corresponds to one passage of the Legend of the Hero and one holy site.

Passage Holy site Notes
First, “The Temple” A temple that rose on a hill in the south-west Fused with the heroes’ resurrection system; Wright’s body lay there.
Second, “The Town of Origin” Solsein Seminary Kept by the Allozar bloodline; runs the trials.
Third, “The Furnace” Royal Furnace, Hiderat Ruled the kings of Hiden; taken by Clevatess, then stolen by Vordin’s avatar.
Fourth, “Heaven and Earth” Toa’s Fountainhead, below the old capital of Toa
Final, “New Horizon”

Keys

A key is chained to each book, and the key that opens a book hangs from the one before it, with the last opening the first, so the five form a closed circle. Normally only those of the lineages chosen by Toa can handle a book, but linking and opening all five removes that restriction and reactivates the “magical cycle” of the legend. When the Union opened them, gates appeared in the Chamber above the clouds, leading to each holy site, and the sites were restored to their original forms.

Known keepers

  • The kings of Hiden were bound to the Furnace book through their true names. Clevatess called it “the Master of the Furnace” and noted that “a mere book burned the King of Hiden to death and remade him”.
  • The family of Bishop Allozar, down to Princess Milea, kept the Town of Origin.
