Summary
Alicia, like Nathan, has been turned into a beast, so small that Andrew could put her in a jar. To her, he looks like a skeleton, and no one can understand her. The headmaster kneels before Vordin in the mirror world and is ordered to collect the other Books of Toa, including Klen’s.
Klen can no longer sense Alicia. With Zavthier and Laswell he resolves to stop Vordin. Andrew keeps Alicia as food for his carnivorous plants. Gart shares information with Rhode about the vanishing students. Naie tries to flee, but Klen catches her, shows his true face and makes her his servant. Realizing that whoever took Alicia wants his Book, Klen raises a black tower outside the school and dares them to come for it. Ray recognizes the danger, and the headmaster sends most of the students away to prepare.
