Summary
Naie flees from the shadow beasts carrying an unconscious Mary. Flashbacks show Mary’s past and how her desire for power led Vordin to her, and Naie remembers her own. Naie kills most of the beasts and Mary finishes the rest, but Vordin’s power drains her.
Ray Forrester storms the tower and demands to know who Klen is. Klen wears the face of Shiro, the Hiden boy who once saved Ray’s family from a devil beast and became his best friend, and who died when Clevatess attacked Hiden. Klen admits he killed Shiro, though not on purpose. Ray fights on to avenge him but loses, and Klen reveals himself as the Devil Beast King Clevatess. Ray’s attack was a distraction, though: Vordin, in lizard form, steals Klen’s Book.
