T'ala

Crown Princess and later Queen Dowager of Hiden, mother of Luna.

T’ala Mort Anzetta is the Crown Princess of Hiden, the widow of its Crown Prince and the mother of Luna. She married into the royal family and has no royal blood herself.

Personality

T’ala is calm, dignified and stubborn. She is “a mother before she is a Crown Princess”, but she also refuses to abandon her kingdom: as long as the Royal Furnace remains in royal hands, she says, Hiden remains Hiden.

History

T’ala feared the naming ceremony planned for her son and had intended to slip out of the castle with him, but she was away closing an arms deal with Orgg when the late king held it early. When Clevatess destroyed Hiderat, she survived because she was elsewhere.

Learning from the still-glowing furnace that a rightful heir was alive, she refused to flee from Drel’s army. As acting ruler she took up the King’s Hammer, donned armor and led Hiden’s remaining magic-sword soldiers in the defense of the capital. Alicia told her Luna was alive, and T’ala followed her to the furnace. At the decisive moment the King’s Hammer broke Drel’s sword, the Black Dragon, and Luna walked his first steps into her arms.

After the war T’ala, as Queen Dowager, rewarded Clevatess with the post of Royal Magic Instructor, appointed Nelluru as wet nurse and represented Hiden at the three-nation conference at the Ancient Bridge, where she broke off relations with Boelate and banned the sale of Hiden swords to it. She lifted the late king’s ban on magic, considering it vital for national defense.

Relationships

  • Alicia Glenfall: T’ala trusts Alicia, calls her “Hero Alicia” and brings her to the conference as her guard.
  • Clevatess: She sees him as “a sage out of a fairy tale” but eventually asks who he really is. He answers that he is the one who watches over Luna’s growth.
  • Favio Fleep: Her loyal young knight, left in charge of Hiderat.
