Alicia Glenfall

One of the thirteen heroes of Hiden, slain and resurrected by Clevatess to care for Luna.

Alicia Glenfall (アリシア・グレンフォール Arishia Gurenfōru) is one of the main characters of the Clevatess series. She was one of the thirteen heroes killed but resurrected by Clevatess so that she can take care of Luna.

Appearance

Alicia is a young woman of average height, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. As a hero, she wore a silver chest plate armor decorated with gold lining. Her helmet is also similarly styled with a golden visor and a pair of small golden wings on the sides. Like some of her fellow heroes, she donned a blue cape bearing the crest of Hiden.

After being defeated and revived by Clevatess, she retains her battle scars. She now has visible cross-shaped scars on her left leg (which was supposedly severed) and has lost her left eye, leaving her with a large visible scar on it that extends up to her forehead. It is also now concealed by a black eyepatch, which she took from a bandit during her fight with the Crows. Her current clothing consists of a sturdy long-sleeved tunic dress, topped by a fitted leather harness similar to a corset, which is connected to her brown belt.

To infiltrate the Solsein Magic Academy, Clevatess alters Alicia’s appearance to make her look younger and have characteristics similar to the people of Hiden; this appearance doesn’t last long as Clevatess returns her appearance back to normal later on.

Personality

From childhood, Alicia dreamed of becoming a hero, driven by a desire to broaden the world and see what lies beyond the horizon. Her ambition is balanced by humility and a deep sense of caution, having learned to conceal her true identity and strengths. Haunted by the trauma caused by Drel, she struggles with fear but perseveres with impressive resolve.

After becoming a servant to Clevatess, she started to develop anti-hero characteristics as she refused to help the bandits who were under attack by monsters or angry townsfolk. However, she still maintains her caring side.

Despite this, Alicia keeps her duty as a hero, for this reason, after seeing how people from a village suffered the consequences of trying to defeat Clevatess, Alicia feels immensely guilty even though she was merely following orders from the Hiden King. She despises being useless and unable to protect others, feeling ashamed when she can’t help Clevatess in understanding how sorcery works.

Abilities

As one of the thirteen heroes chosen by the king of Hiden, Alicia is the daughter of the former swordmaster hero Margo who reach highest echelons of power from her training ever since she was a child. Being the only woman among the heroes sent to fight Clevatess, not only she lasted longer than the others thanks to her skillful maneuvering, but she was also the first to realize Clevatess’s power and was the only one who actually landed a blow on his horn, even if it only amounted to a minor scratch. She also has some limited understanding of humanoids simply making him think he simply needed a woman to feed Luna instead of one that gave birth. Her greatest feat of her strength is her victory against Drel the Dragon Slayer, shows that even though she is not all powerful to defeat the dark beast lord Clevatess, Alicia is still the strongest and the most formidable hero in Edthea.

Swordsmanship

As a hero, she’s a skilled swordswoman with a unique rare talent called the “hearing the voice of the sword”, a trait that was passed down from her family for generation, allowing her to draw out more power than anyone else—a gift acknowledged by her father.

Although it’s not very strong, she still skillful enough to slice through regular Dark Beasts and human bandits with relative ease. Alicia possesses a wide variety of sword techniques that very deadly in combat such as the rising dragon.

Runes

During the Solsein arc Alicia passes both trials of the Mirror Labyrinth and awakens two runes (skills), which she keeps because they come from within her rather than from the trial itself.

  • Wave of Agony: A “charge and release” rune. A glowing sphere on her fist swells with the pain she receives, and she can release it as a single blast or spread it out.
  • Courage: Awakened in her second trial and marked around her left eye. It galvanizes her entire body and charges her sword, which she calls the ultimate fruit of the sword arts her father taught her.

History (manga)

The thirteen heroes

Alicia grew up in Sogo Village, trained by her father Margo. After her mother died following a landslide, she resolved to become a hero to “expand the world”, as her mother had asked of her. She introduced herself only as “Alicia of Sogo Village” so that no one would know she was the Sword Master’s daughter. When Drel killed her father, she kept her promise not to seek revenge and joined the thirteen heroes sent by the King of Hiden against Clevatess. She was the last to fall.

Servant of the Devil Beast King

Resurrected with Devil Blood, Alicia was forced to care for Luna. When the Crows captured the group, she threw herself off a bridge to test her new immortality, took her eyepatch from a bandit, crushed the gang by drowning them in the lake of the Mineshaft of Elbe and recovered the legendary Waterfall Slicer from the head of an ancient beast. She gave up her own blood so Clevatess could rebuild Nelluru.

At Shiron she was hunted by the townsfolk under Meynard Swann’s influence, won them over by telling them she had seen that the world has no end, and wiped out Meynard’s insect swarm with the Waterfall Slicer. She then flew to Hiderat, faced Drel with Rhode Royes, and told T’ala that her son was alive. When Clevatess wanted to give up after learning the truth about Toa, she shouted at him to look into Luna’s eyes. Calling herself “a fake hero, but a hero all the same”, she struck Drel down with a new “Rising Waterfall” and set up the blow that broke his sword.

Solsein

Shrunk by Clevatess into a girl with Hiden features, she entered the Solsein Seminary as “Alissa Slayhunt”. She failed the basic magic lessons, investigated the disappearance of students with the Eslinn twins and Naie, and was dragged into the mirror world, where she awoke as a small beast. She passed the first trial by facing her former self, escaped Andrew Whip, and then dove into the deeper red world on her own. There she found the puppet factory where the souls of babies had been harvested, defeated the Chimera Queen, broke Milea’s Mirror Prison and passed the second trial against an image of her father. She helped reunite Milea with her reflection and returned to the real world.

After the battle she sent Naie to the Emperor with a story that would keep war away from Solsein. On the way back, she suddenly collapsed and lost her senses at the moment Clevatess’s heart was torn out.

Relationships

Clevatess

Clevatess is rightfully her master after he resurrected her, so she must obey his every command. Although their relationship started off complicated, a friendship gradually blossomed. Alicia is partly grateful to Clevatess for helping her not to give up on her mission to expand the world, as well as her role as a heroine. This is seen in how Clevatess cheered Alicia up by telling her that he never ordered her to stop being a heroine and when she told her that Nelluru’s world became bigger when she used her strength to save her.

It has been seen that Alice has also begun to show concern for Clevatess, such as when she told her to be careful when she went to fight Drel. She also begins to be stunned by Clevatess’s decisions, such as when he wanted to study magic for Luna.

By the time it was time to infiltrate the academy, it was clear that the relationship between Alicia and Clevatess had strengthened, with them speaking more like friends than master and slave. Alicia got angry because Clevatess didn’t respond when they spoke psychically, and Clevatess risked revealing his identity to give Alicia a chance to escape. He even stated that he would make sure that the bond he had with Alicia would not be broken again.

T’ala

Alicia never officially met T’ala until they met in the capital. T’ala was grateful to Alicia for confirming that Luna is alive. During their brief time together in the capital, T’ala’s trust in Alicia grew to the point where she confided in her about some of her worries.

Following Drel’s defeat, Alicia officially becomes Queen T’ala’s bodyguard.

Drel

After Drel killed her father Margo, Alicia has nothing but hatred and a desire to kill Drel, a desire for revenge that she repressed at her father’s request, since he did not want Alicia to stray from her desire to be a heroine. After being resurrected by Clevatess, Alicia was finally able to get her revenge by destroying his Regalia, the Dark Dragon. This made Vordin consider him useless and take the dark ichor, killing him.

Nelluru

Alicia has a good relationship with Nelluru, this is seen in how she was willing to die for a moment so that Clevatess could revive her and when she told Clevatess that seeing Nelluru gives her a quality feeling since she is the first person she makes happy using her sword. Whilst Clevatess was away off to kill Drel, they bonded and Alicia asked Nelluru to not address her as a hero as she felt it would bring unwanted attention.

Luna

Before Nelluru joined, Alicia had to take care of Luna, but she was bad at it as she was heavy handed and wound bruised when bathing him, however Alicia did care for Luna and would help Nelluru look after him. She has held Luna whilst Nelluru was busy, and Luna is comfortable being in her arms. When Clevatess was going to abandon Luna, Alicia was enraged as she cared a lot for Luna and hated how heartless Clevatess was being.

She also figured that Luna has a good influence on Clevatess as he is pacified whenever Luna is around.

Rhode Royes

Alicia fought alongside him against Drel and they showed great comradery and teamwork.

After the battle, Royes ran to her aid and demanded that medics treat her, but Alicia told Royes to go and tell the other soldiers that Drel was dead, so Royes ran through the streets showing Drel’s broken Regalia and declaring that the Hero Alicia had killed Drel.
