Summary
As a child, Alicia listens to her father Margo describe the dark lands ruled by the four Devil Beast Kings, and decides she wants to become an adventurer. Years later Margo is killed, and Alicia joins the thirteen heroes that the King of Hiden sends to slay the Devil Beast King Clevatess at Moon Mountain. The battle is hopeless: Clevatess kills every one of them.
To find out why humans want him dead, Clevatess flies to the capital Hiderat, levels it and kills the king. Before he leaves, a dying boy begs him to take care of a baby, and Clevatess reluctantly agrees.
Unable to feed the child, he revives Alicia with his blood. She is now bound to him, cannot disobey him and cannot die, but she is a maiden and has no milk to give. They decide to hire a wet nurse, taking some of the capital’s treasure as payment. Clevatess takes a human form, calls himself “Klen” and names the baby “Luna”. From the baby’s swaddling cloth Alicia realizes Luna is of royal blood. On the road the group is ambushed by bandits and captured. Meanwhile, the Hiden knight Favio learns that the king had provoked the dark lands, and a neighboring nation begins eyeing what is left of Hiden.
