Meynard Swann is the top wizard of Drel’s army, with long curly dark hair over his eyes and star-shaped slit pupils. He controls every kind of insect, including ones “on par with devil beasts”: giant centipedes, swarms of mosquito-like creatures, venomous spiders whose poison weakens Devil Blood, a giant scorpion mount and the larvae of the giant moth Geignissan, whose hundred-year cycle he speeds up with a crystal.
Meynard lost his family as a child when they were crushed under rubble, and no hero came. He once adored heroes and came to hate them, believing only Drel could protect people like him.
He opened Higate’s gate from the inside, then searched for the Hiden baby. At Shiron he walled the town in insects and turned the townspeople against Alicia, enjoying the sight of a hero hunted by her own people. Alicia, using the returned Waterfall Slicer, destroyed his swarm with a single “Flowing Water Slash” and cut him down. He survived and was later held in an underground prison in Eslinn.
