Luna is the infant son of Crown Princess T’ala of Hiden and the only living member of the kingdom’s royal bloodline after the destruction of Hiderat. He was carried out of the burning castle and handed to Clevatess, who named him “Luna” and decided to raise him to see whether humanity deserved to survive.
Appearance
Luna has the pointed ears and light, curly hair of a pure-blooded Hidenean. His hair is pale pink and his eyes are light purple, a color that matters a great deal to Clevatess. He was about six months old when the story began and wrapped in a cloth bearing the crest of the royal family.
Background
Luna’s birth name is Hydelius VI. His father, the Crown Prince, took his own life after learning the truth about the Royal Furnace, and the late king moved Luna’s naming ceremony forward while his mother was away. On the day of the ceremony Clevatess destroyed the capital. The page boy Shiro Kleitos carried the baby through the ruins and died there, and the dying woman who held Luna last begged Clevatess to save him.
History
Luna spends his first months travelling with Clevatess, Alicia and Nelluru. He shows an unusually strong aptitude for sorcery very early: his crying knocks back the sorcerer Vroko, and he moves stones and later letter blocks without touching them.
At the Royal Furnace the possessed corpse of his grandfather tried to throw him into the fire, but Clevatess had swapped him for a shadow. Afterwards Luna took his first steps towards his mother, and the name “Luna” given by Clevatess appeared on the back of the throne as a royal true name. T’ala made Clevatess his magic tutor and Nelluru his personal wet nurse.
By the end of the Solsein arc, Luna, still under a year old, has the intellect of a ten-year-old and can fly. Clevatess senses the power of a domain in him, something no previous king of Hiden possessed. As king he opened the gate of the restored Royal Furnace so Clevatess could follow Vordin.
